Benton Central's extracurricular theatre program seeks to provide Benton County youth with the opportunity for creative expression and great personal growth through involvement in the arts.  The production of a play incorporates numerous factions, including historical research and accuracy, scenic design and construction, scenic painting, prop construction, costume design and construction, acting and public speaking, accents and movement mastery, lighting design and production, sound design and production, and many more.  Theatre is not just about acting; it is also about learning crew skills and being part of a hard-working, fun-loving, and creative team.

Acting

Participants who audition and are selected for acting roles memorize and deliver lines from the script. This requires learning proper delivery and movement methods, including intonation, projection, enunciation, accent development, gesticulation, and animation. Actors are also instructed in stage combat techniques, as needed.

Crew

Crew members can expect to get hands-on experience in a variety of areas, including specialized scenic painting, prop construction, lighting production, sound production, stage management, and advertising. Students receive extensive instruction in rehearsals, which allows each live performance to be entirely student-run.

Make-Up & Special Effects

Varsity Players make-up artists utilize Ben Nye stage make-up and application techniques to achieve realistic special effects--particularly the appearance of old age. Other appearance alterations include crepe wool facial hair, airbrushing, and gore effects.
